New York April 18 (TNS): Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations Dr Maleeha Lodhi on Wednesday called for putting in place a mechanism to independently probe reports emerging from conflict zones regarding the sexual violence.
Taking part in the open house debate on “prevention of sexual violence” at UN Security Council, Dr Lodhi said that from Myanmar to India, the world continues to watch in horror as several state and non-state actors employ rape and sexual abuse as a deliberate policy to subdue and oppress entire civilian populations.
She urged the UN Security Council to focus on addressing the root cause of conflicts across the globe to do away with the grounds where such crimes breed.
