PESHAWAR April 19 (TNS): Chief Justice Justice Saqib Nisar on Thursday summons Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak over non-availability of clean drinking water and poor governance in the province.
A three-member bench headed by the chief justice heard several cases of public interest at the Peshawar registry. The chief justice remarked that the chief minister and his government was beating about the bush about good governance but the fact is that everything was almost in tatters in the province and Peshawar city had been strewed with garbage and waste which is not being dumped at landfill sites.
The chief justice observed that they were available at the registry for 24 hours and the chief minister could show up any time to apprise the court of the measures taken regarding the clean drinking water, availability of medicine and other issues facing the public.
The chief justice also sought a report on the disposal of hospitals’ waste across the province.
In the mean, the chief justice ordered KP Police Inspector General Police Salahuddin Mehsud to withdraw extra security given to the ‘undeserved’ officials.
The IGP told the court that 3,000 police personnel had been deployed on the security duty of officials across the province, upon which the apex court gave the deadline of 2 pm to call back the personnel.
Earlier, the CJP visited Al Razi Medical College and showed his displeasure over the high fee charged from students. The Al Razi Medical College charges Rs1.5 million per year fee from the students. Justice Nisar ordered the Federal Investigation Agency to seize the record of the college and also ordered the freeze its account
After visiting various sections of the college, the chief justice expressed dissatisfaction at the facilities being provided to the students.
The top judge also visited the Lady Reading Hospital and inspected the facilities being provided to the patients, who came up with a plethora of complaints against the hospital administration.
