80th death anniversary of Dr Allama Iqbal today

Lahore April 21 (TNS): The 80th death anniversary of national poet, philosopher and intellectual Allama Muhammad Iqbal is being observed across the country today.

Dr Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot.

He is also considered one of the most important figures literary works in both Urdu and Persian languages. Asrar-e-Khudi, Payam-i-Mashriq, Bang-i-Dara, Bal-i-Jibril, Zarb-i Kalim and Armughan-e-Hijaz were amongst his best works.

He is also recognized as Muslim philosophical thinker of modern times. Dr Iqbal is known as the Poet of the East. He is also credited with sparking the pan-Islamic thought among Muslims of the subcontinent.

Various social, political and cultural organizations are holding special programmes to pay homage to the poet. He passed away in Lahore on April 21, 1938.
