New Delhi, April 24 (TNS): For the first time in history, a female from Pakistan has been appointed as the Consulate General to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 70 years Indian media reported on Tuesday.
In a major development, Fozia Fayyaz Ahmed has been appointed as the Consulate General to Jeddah.
Hailing from southern Punjab Fozia Fayyaz Ahmed comes from a very traditional family. She holds a master degree in English literature. Ahmed was first posted at Washington DC.

Then she served in Islamabad for a couple of months and later got posted in New Delhi.
In an exclusive conversation with Catch News, she said, “I hail from an area where people hardly understand the importance of education and when it comes to girl child education it isn’t important for them. It is all because of my late father Fayyaz Ahmad who had vision, passion and courage that daughters should also get the higher education.”
When asked about women in Pak society and recognition, she said, “Pakistan is definitely a progressive country and women are doing good in different spheres. When it comes to Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs women are given priority over men. They are recognised and acknowledged for their work.”
Being the first female diplomat to be posted in Jeddah after 70 years, when asked how it felt, she said, “Being the first female diplomat to Saudi is indeed a great opportunity. Being the in-charge of a consular section will help people in different spheres like job seekers, passports, national identity cards, renewal and extension and travel documents.”
