SC constitutes three-member bench to hear Kh Asif’s plea challenging his disqualification by IHC

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Friday constituted a three-member bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial to hear the plea of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif’s challenging his disqualification by the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

The bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, including Justices Faisal Arab and Sajjad Ali Shah members of the bench, will hear the plea on May 7 at 1:30 pm.

The PML-N leader had challenged his disqualification verdict in the Supreme Court on earlier this week. He has taken a stance in his review petition that he unintentionally failed to disclose his foreign work permit in his nomination papers on the basis of which IHC has disqualified him.

Asif has pleaded the court to declare the IHC’s judgment null and void.

On April 27, IHC under Article 62 (1)(f) of the Constitution for failing to disclose his employment in a UAE company and the monthly salary he was receiving, has lifetime disqualified Asif take part in the elections.

A three bench members three-member bench headed by Justice Athar Minallah had unanimously ruled that Asif was not eligible to contest the 2013 general election as he did not fulfil the conditions described under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution, read with Section 99(1)(f) of the constitution.
