Sydney, May 4 (TNS): Ousted Australian skipper Steve Smith has returned home from a much-needed break overseas and is determined to win back the trust of fans which he lost to a great extent following his role in the high profile ball tempering episode.

Smith took to social media for the first time in a month and thanked his cricketing fans for giving him a second chance and for supporting him even after the scandal.

The skipper was sacked and sent back home immediately after the news broke of the Ball tempering scandal and since then he had been in New York to rejuvenate himself.

The former Australian captain said that he will not take anything for granted in his fight to earn back trust again from all the people who were hurt because of him.

Smith wrote on Instagram on Friday. “It’s great to be back home in Australia. I have had some time away to come to terms with everything and now it’s time to get back into it. He added, “I now have a lot to do to earn back your trust.”

“I have had some time away to come to terms with everything and now it’s time to get back into it. The amount of emails and letters I have received has been incredible and I have been extremely humbled by the enormous amount of support you have given me.

Last month cricket Australia suspended Smith along with team vice-captain David Warner from all international and domestic cricket for a year, while young opening batsman Cameron Bancroft was suspended for nine months.

Coach Darren Lehmann stepped down from his role as head coach after the disaster of ball tampering scandal in South Africa.

Lehmann also greeted Smith after his return back home, as he tweeted “welcome home mate” in response to his former captain’s post.

Former Test opening batsman Justin Langer was appointed head coach as Lehmann’s successor on Thursday.
