Islamabad, May 8 (TNS): Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday suspended the Senate membership of the former finance minister Ishaq Dar over a case challenging the acceptance of his nomination papers by Election commission.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar questioned that why the former finance minister did not come up in court despite being summoned on a number of hearings.
Dar’s Counsel told the court that his client was not well and will show up once he recovers from an illness after he submitted his medical certificate as proof.
However, the chief justice dismissed the certificate and remarked that it is essential for Dar to appear in the court at some point of the case.
Justice Ijaz Ul Ehsan also remarked on the proceedings by saying that Dar seems to be well on TV but when it comes to court hearings he becomes ill and submits medical certificates, referring to the inability of Dar facing the hearings.
Dar has been declared a proclaimed offender after the National Accountability Beaureu filed a reference against him and has not returned to the country since October.
Dar was elected Senator from Punjab on February 17 after Lahore High Court suspended their judgment allowing him to contest Senate Elections from Punjab, albeit he did not administer the oath.
