LAHORE, May 08 (TNS): A Lahore High Court (LHC) division bench on Tuesday issued notices to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and others for May 24 on a bail application filed by Asif Hashmi, former Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) chairman, in illegal investment and plots allotment cases.
The division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan heard the bail application. During the proceedings, Hashmi’s counsel submitted that the NAB arrested his client on baseless allegations of illegal investment and plots allotment.
He submitted that the accountability court had sent Asif Hashmi to jail on judicial remand as he was no longer required for investigation.
He submitted that Asif Hashmi did not get any personal benefit in the said cases whereas all decisions were made by the board.
The counsel further submitted that other co-accused had been released on bail in the said cases. Therefore, the benefit of bail should be extended to Asif Hashmi, he pleaded. The bench after hearing initial arguments issued notices to NAB for May 24 and sought reply.
It is pertinent to mention here that Hashmi served as the ETPB chairman between 2008 and 2013.
