Chennai, May 9 (TNS): English Pacer Mark Wood has decided to end his IPL stint with Chennai Super Kings early in mid-season as he prepares for the Test series against Pakistan in May.

The pacer only played one match for Chennai this season and was released by the side led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

The 28-year-old will now head to Durham to take part in a five-match series in a bid to have a fair shot to make the test squad for England.

Wood took to Instagram and wrote, “The decision has been made for me to return home to England to prepare for the English summer. Having worked so hard to get back into the test team, and because I’m not currently not in the CSK side, I am coming home to play for Durham to hopefully put my name in the hat for Test match selection”

CSK bought Mark Wood for Rs 1.5 crores in IPL this season and the pacer managed to make the playing XI in the first game of the season but had a frantic performance in his debut as he went for 0-49 in his 4 overs against defending Champions Mumbai Indians.

The England fast bowler will now play for Durham against Derbyshire in their county championship match, which will commence this week.

Apart from Wood, three more English players Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali who play together in Royal Challengers Bangalore and Ben Stokes who represents Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, will make a return to England later this month to go full throttle against Pakistan in the first test at Lord’s on May 24.
