Karachi, May 10 (TNS): International Cricket Council have charged bookie Irfan Ansari for breaching ICC’s anti-corruption code, the cricket governing body informed on Thursday.
Ansari is a cricket organiser and also an employee of the Sharjah Cricket stadium and is affiliated to a team that participates in international matches, has been charged with the breaching of three codes of their anti-corruption unit.
The bookie was reported to the Cricket governing body (ICC) by the Pakistan Cricket Board when he approached Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed in October 2017, during a series against Sri Lanka, and tried to provoke the skipper of spot-fixing.
However, Sarfraz immediately reported to the PCB security officials and team management who then reported to the National cricket governing body, who later informed the ICC.
The three codes breached by Ansari are pertaining to, directly inducing, soliciting and encouraging a player of the fixing act and also the inability of cooperating with ACU investigation process.
Ansari has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect and has 14 days from May 19 to respond to the charges.
