Colombo, May 23 (TNS): After making record profits through revenues generated from broadcasting earnings in 2017, Sri Lankan cricket board has announced to hike wages of 33 Sri Lankan players under central contracts by 34%.

The Sri-Lankan cricket team produced dismal results on the field last year as they suffered a defeat against India, were stunned at home in a one day series against Zimbabwe who are bottom in the ODI rankings.

Despite that, the Sri Lankan players will also be awarded hefty wages and match fees will so be increased substantially.

Sri Lanka cricket board announced last week that a record annual profit of $14 million was achieved in 2017, a large increase than the revenues generated in 2016, which were around $6 million.

A packed 2017 calendar year for Sri Lanka helped in generating such great revenues, which included home series against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and India.

A high profile series against India turned out to be a game-changer pertaining to the broadcasting earnings which Sri Lanka bagged last year.

Sri Lankan board did not give a breakdown of individual salaries of players, but they are known to be among the highest paid individuals in Sri Lanka.
