Johannesburg, May 23 (TNS): South African star batsman and Veteran, AB de Villiers has announced his retirement on Wednesday, from International cricket after a stellar 14-year career.

In January De Villiers stated that all his concentration was now on the 2019 world cup however this abrupt decision will be a surprise for many of his fans and admirers.

The 34-year-old in a Video message announced that this is the right time to hang his boots, “I have decided to retire from all international Cricket with immediate effect, it is time for others to take over, I have had my turn and to be honest, I am Tired”, he said.

De Villiers further added, “This is a tough decision, I have thought long and hard about it, but I want to retire at my peak and after series wins against Australia and India it feels like the best time to step aside.”

“It’s not about earning more it’s about running out of gas and feeling that it is the right time to move on, plus it would not be right for me to pick and choose where, when and in what format I play for the Proteas. For me, in the green and gold, it must be everything or nothing.”

De Villiers also said that he has no plans to play overseas in leagues and hoped to play for the Titans in Domestic cricket.

The former Proteas skipper represented South Africa in 114 Test matches 228 ODIs and 78 T-20 internationals.
