Multi-pronged strategy afoot to attract tourists: Minister

ASTORE, May 30 (TNS): Minister for Tourism Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Fedia Khan Fedia on Wednesday said the government was taking tangible measures for the promotion of tourism in the region.
The minister said several national companies and firms have been contacted to engage in joint venture projects for the promotion of tourism sector. Talking to media men, he said that owing to the attractive policies of the government, more tourists opt for visiting the GB which was blessed with natural beauty and this season the number was likely to go up to 1.5 million.
He said local tourism department was utilizing all its resources to fully capitalize on
the natural wealth and attract more tourists. Local people were also being educated
about better handling and facilitating of tourists, he added. He informed that there was a plan to build hotels at Phandar and Surniya as part of efforts to provide best facilities to people visiting the area. Moreover, the government was also refurbishing tourism resort in Phandar and PWD Rest House on modern lines, he said. He said the chief minister was also taking the keen interest in uplifting the tourism sector which had long been awaiting development-oriented measures.

He maintained that the government has succeeded to overcome power load shedding in the area and the work on power projects was in advance stages.
