London, June 1 (TNS): Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi on Friday announced that he will make a massive donation of $20,000 to the hurricane relief cause.
Afridi captained the ICC World XI in the Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge against the West Indies at Lord’s on Thursday.
However, his side were comprehensively beaten by 72 runs, with West Indies opener Evin Lewis claiming the Man of the Match award for his 26-ball 58.
The one-off Twenty20 International helped raise funds for five cricket grounds in the Caribbean that were damaged by hurricanes Irma and Maria – James Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, Dominica’s Windsor Park Stadium, Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and Carib Lumber Ball Park in St Maarten.
With this in mind, Afridi confirmed that through his foundation – Hope Not Out – he will be donating a large amount to help those in need and ensure the grounds damaged are restored.
“Thank you ICC for providing me the opportunity of contributing to #CricketRelief cause. It was a real honour for me and a memory I’ll cherish for long,” he said on Twitter. “On behalf of my Foundation I’m making a donation 20000$ for the Hurricane victims in Caribbean,” Afridi tweeted.
