Egypt, June 11(TNS): Egyptian security forces killed four militants in the northern coastal city of Arish in Sinai during a raid on Monday.
According to the forces’ official statement، the militants were hiding in a construction site in Arish، when the raid happened.
Security forces found ammunition and automatic weapons at the scene.
Egypt has for years been struggling to contain the militant insurgency in the turbulent Sinai region. It has carried out military operations there that، it says، have killed hundreds of militants.
It has also built a buffer zone along the border with Gaza to curb the flow of militants and weapons through a vast tunnel network. The insurgency،, however, ، has shown no signs of abating.
Egypt has launched a massive offensive against Islamic militants in the Sinai peninsula، seeking to end a bloody conflict that has killed hundreds of civilians and soldiers in recent years.
