Islamabad, June 13 (TNS): Supreme Court dismissed the plea against Awami Muslim League leader Sheikh Rasheed on Wednesday.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz member Shakeel Awan filed a case against the AML leader regarding misdeclaration of assets in his nomination papers in the general elections of 2013, in which Awan was Sheikh Rasheed’s opponent.
The three-member bench led by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed along with Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah reserved their verdict on March 20.
Shakeel Awan moved the petition which included the lifetime disqualification of Sheikh Rasheed. The PML-N leader lost to Sheikh Rashid in the Constituency of NA-55 in Rawalpindi.
The decision of the hearing came with a majority of 2-1 in favor of Sheikh Rasheed and the Bench decided that due to the inadequate disclosure of particular facts in the petition Sheikh Rasheed cannot be disqualified on the basis of Article 184(3).
The petition filed by Shakeel Awan was on the basis of Article 184 (3) rather than article 62(1)(f) against the Awami Muslim League Leader.
Earlier Sheikh Rasheed had accepted that he declared his assets but a mistake did occur in the figures of assets and he did not commit omission of assets.
A jubilated Sheikh Rasheed “I have done nothing wrong and never hid any of my assets,” he added, “God is great, He has bestowed me with respect yet again.”
