ECP announces installation of 12 election tribunals across the country

Islamabad, June 19 (TNS): The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday announced the installation of 12 Election tribunals on the recommendation of high courts Chief Justices.

The tribunal will hear and dispose of the appeals filed against decisions taken by returning officers (ROs) during the elections.

Five Tribunals have been established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,Four in Punjab,Two Tribunals have been set up in Sindh, whereas one has been setup in the Balochistan province.

Four out of the five Tribunals in KPK are of a single bench. Cities, where the tribunal will proceed the trials, include Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mingora, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan. Meanwhile, in Punjab, Tribunals have been set up in cities like Lahore, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Rawalpindi.

In Sindh, tribunals will be established in cities such as Karachi and Sukkur whereas the principle tribunal in Balochistan province has been set up in the main city Quetta.

Returning officers (ROs) on Tuesday will conclude the scrutiny of credentials of over 21,000 candidates in the run for the July 25 general elections.
