Moscow, June 21 (TNS): In the second round of matches in the world cup on Thursday Iran put a great fight against an experienced and well-knit Spain who possess an array of world class talent in their ranks, despite a 1-0 loss.

According to many Pundits, it was the one of the most impressive performance by an Asian side in the world cup.

Spain’s hulk-esque striker Diego Costa put his side in the driving seat as he scuffled the ball into the net in the 54th minute courtesy a deflection.

Iran created 7 open chances in the attacking half but were unable to get any shot on target the only aspect of their game that lacked quality.

A goal for Iran was disallowed through verification from Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the second half as Izatolahi netted home from close range following a corner.

However, the VAR suggested Iran’s no.6 had just strayed offside, a historic celebration, cut short.

The result means Iran stand in third place in Group B with 3 points, whereas Spain has now surged to the top of the table with 4.

Spain will now face Morocco in the last group game, Morocco who have already been eliminated will look to salvage their pride.

Iran will face Ronaldo’s Portugal in the final group games and the game will decide who will progress the round of 16.
