ECP publishes final list of candidates, allots election symbols

Islamabad, July 1 (TNS): The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) published the final list of candidates and allotted them election symbols as per schedule.

A total of 21,482 candidates had filed nomination papers this time and several have withdrawn. For 2013 general elections, over 28,000 nomination papers were filed.

June 30 was the last day for publication of the final lists of candidates and allotment of election symbols. A day earlier the candidates had the opportunity to withdraw their nomination papers.

Final lists of candidates along with their symbols have been posted outside the offices of returning officers and district returning officers countrywide.

In Islamabad, twenty eight candidates are in the race for the NA-52 seat whilst for NA-54, the main contestants are Anjum Aqeel of PML (N), Asad Umar of PTI, Imran Ashraf of PPP and Mian Aslam of MMA.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Ayesha Gulalai and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi are vying for the NA-53 seat among others.

ECP officials told our correspondent that the process of consolidation of data is currently underway and the completion of the process will take some time.

The final list of candidates will be published on the election commission’s website after the consolidation of entire data.
