Islamabad July 12 (TNS): Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) on Thursday warned private news channel to avoid airing contemptuous content.

According to a press release issued by the media watchdog, PEMRA called for covering political activities of upcoming General Elections 2018 to strengthen the democratic norms, values, traditions and institutions to facilitate free, fair and transparent elections without any biasness.

The watchdog, however, warned news channels saying that despite earlier code of conduct issued by the PEMRA, malicious and indecent content was going on-air without editing which substantiates weak editorial control of satellite TV channel licensees.

Further it is directed that all the licencees should be mindful of the fact that airing of such content is violation of PEMRA Laws for the General Elections 2018 issued by Election Commission of Pakistan.

“Relevant provisions of PEMRA Code of Conduct 2015 are reproduced which includes fundamental principles ,news and current affairs programmes , editorial oversight , programming mix and live coverage, monitoring committee, hate speech and airing of any allegation”, the statement concluded.
