Torrential rains: WASA imposes emergency in Rawalpindi

Islamabad, July 18, (TNS): The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has imposed emergency in Rawalpindi as  torrential rains  continue to pour in Rawalpindi

Series of torrential rain continues in Rawalpindi and surrounding areas. After which WASA has imposed rain emergency in the city, and its MD Raja Shaukat along with other staff is present on the field to cop with any emergency.

The  MD WASA said teams of WASA are draining water from low-lying areas of the city. According to WASA spokesperson, water is being drained from Committee Chowk under-pass. After torrential rains, many low-lying areas including Sadiqabad, Shamsabad, College Road, Committee Chowk, Servis road and others are engulfed by water.

All the WASA staff including MD, are busy in water drainage from low-lying areas. According to Met Department, 60 mm rainfall in recorded in Rawalpindi as yet. The downpour has caused rise in Rawalpindi’s Nullah Lai water level upto 4.
