LAHORE, July 28 (TNS): Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s PML-N senior leader and former Railway minister Saad Rafiq has lost his contest in recounting.
Rafique, who lost to the PTI chairman Imran Khan with a very thin margin of under 100 votes in the constituency NA-131 in Wednesday’s polls, had filed a complaint with the returning officer alleging that the presiding officer deliberately rejected hundreds of votes.
On Friday, the Returning Officer approved the plea, which challenged his opponent Imran Khan’s victory in NA-131 Lahore 9 constituency.
In a recounting process Saad Rafiq could only gained 150 votes while as his opponent did also managed to add 50 more votes to his aggregate.
Questions have been raised at a number of other constituencies where the win-loss margins were very close and recounting can be expected to take place at more constituencies.
Faisalabad’s NA-108 and NA-106, Multan’s NA-154 and NA-157, NA-230 Badin, NA-57 Murree, NA-131 Lahore, and others are among the constituencies where recounting is being carried out.
