Amir Liaquat fails to appear before SC in hate-speech case

Islamabad, August 8 (TNS): Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday resumed hearing of the hate speech case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf politician and televangelist Amir Liaquat in which he failed to appear.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar told Liaquat’s Counsel,“ Your client should have been here, I am sure you are aware that we can issue red warrants for him if he fails to show up”

In reply Amir Liaquat’s counsel said, “We want one more day from the court to prepare for the case”

To this the top judge remarked “we are here till 1.00 pm, he has time to appear before the court”

The Independent Media Group told the court during the hearing that Amir Liaquat made derogatory remarks and made speeches pertaining to violence on January 2 and January 24 last year against petitioners Mir Shakil Ur Rehman, Najam Sethi and Shahzeb Khanzada and accused them of blasphemy in his BOL program “Aise Nahi Chalega”

To this the chief justice said that court will monitor all clips of his programs however, Amir Liaquat was slapped a fine of 20,000 which will go as donation to the Diamer Bhasha Dam fund.

The hearing was adjourned till Friday.
