ISLAMABAD, JULY 12 (TNS): PTI’s Asad Omer on Wednesday at a press conference here repeated demand for the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for alleged money laundering.
“It is in the best interest of the Prime Minister and Ishaq Dar to resign, given the quagmire they are facing,” he added.
“The Prime Minister was the chairman and paid employee of his son’s company. The documents and affidavits the Sharifs submitted turned out to be fake,” Umar said, adding that the Sharif family wouldn’t have faced embarrassment if the PM had resigned 15 months ago”.
The PTI leader also called on Ishaq Dar to step down from his ministerial position. He said Dar’s statement in the Hudaibiya Paper Mills case, given under oath, proved to be true. Stop defending the looters. “You appointed your friend as the SECP chairman, and he is now facing an FIR on the Supreme Court’s order,” he lamented.
“|Your ‘personal attacks’ at Imran Khan have boosted the PTI chairman’s respect among the public. Thank you. “You said that Imran Khan used to sit outside your office for donations. He did it for the sake of the poor, not for himself,” Umar clarified.
As to how the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project might be affected by a regime change, Umar said all political parties support CPEC. “CPEC is not dependent on any government. China remains the closest friend of Pakistan, irrespective of who is in power here,” he assured.
He said: “In the age of social media, it was only a matter of time before someone confirmed from Microsoft that the font Calibri was made available for public use only in 2007, and not before.” The ‘Calibri controversy’ emerged after the JIT report revealed that PM Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz had submitted a declaration regarding offshore companies, Nielsen and Nescoll Limited, dated 2006.
PTI leader Shafqat Mahmood, also addressed the conference and said that the Prime Minister has lost the moral authority to rule in the aftermath of the revelations by the JIT report.
“I commend the JIT for courage and proficiency. Its efforts in preparing the thorough report are commendable. Anyone thinking about doing corruption in the future would think twice before doing it,” he said.
