SC decides not to close Asghar Khan Case, rather take it to its logical end

Islamabad, Jan. 11 (TNS): Supreme Court has decided not to close the Asghar Khan case against dolling out money to politicians in the 1990 general election and take it to its logical end.

The order was passed by a three-member bench of the Apex court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar while hearing the case in Islamabad on Friday.

At the very outset of the proceedings, FIA pleaded for closing the case due to absence of solid evidence and some technical reasons.

Director General FIA told the court that the agency carried out investigation against ten politicians as per its mandate.The court expressed dissatisfaction over FIA’s justification for closing the case.

The court sought a reply from FIA over an application of the Asghar Khan’s family seeking continuity of the case for a logical conclusion. It also ordered the Secretary Defence to submit his reply within a week.

The Chief Justice asked the senior lawyer Salman Akram Raja to assist the court for further proceeding the case. The case has now been adjourned till 25th of this month.The apex court in its judgment of 2012 in the case had declared the 1990 elections as rigged and ordered the FIA, to initiate an inquiry against those who had given the money and those who had accepted the money.
