PESHAWAR, (TNS): Keep away from FATA reforms: MNA Afridi threatened

PESHAWAR, July 13 (TNS): Member of National Assembly (MNA) Shah Jee Gul Afridi, the elected Parliamentarian from Khyber Agency says that he has received telephone threats from militant organizations t to keep away from FATA reforms

He refused to name any specific organization. He said the calls were received through an international number however he is uncertain about the agency or organization behind this.

There are reports that the calls have been made by a militant organization, however, Afridi said that he could not confirm the name of the organization. He stated that, “The caller was speaking in Pashto therefore he could belong to any organization.”

“The caller said it would be better for me to stay away from the efforts to bring the tribal areas into the mainstream and added he has informed the Interior Ministry and other related departments about the incident and they have assured him of providing complete security.

The ardent supporter of FATA reforms, Afridi, had also launched a drive in support of FATA’s merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

It is pertinent to mention here that the FATA Reforms Bill was to be tabled before the Parliament in May this year.

This could not be done due to opposition from Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JU-I) Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai.

Afridi said that he would not be terrified. He vowed that his struggle for the prosperity and reforms of the tribal areas would continue.
