Lahore, Jan. 23 (TNS): Punjab Literacy and non-formal basic education secretary Salman Ejaz has said that the government is taking all possible measures to enhance the rate of literacy in the province.
Addressing a meeting in Lahore on Wednesday, he said that the government has decided to increase rate of literacy with the use of mass media.
He said that the proposals are under consideration for the dissemination of message of taking collective efforts for the enhancement of the rate of literacy.
He said that PTV will be assigned a task of creating awareness among the masses about the sensitive of the literacy and non-formal education so as to take the masses on board in the mutual efforts of achieving one hundred percent rate of literacy in Pakistan.
The secretary said that the Radio Pakistan is also set to play its active role in the governments’ campaign of achieving one hundred percent rate of literacy.
He said that the Virtual University and Allama Iqbal Open University will also be taken on board for their collaboration with the government in the efforts of enhancement of literacy and promotion of non-formal education.
The participants of the meeting held deliberations on the various proposals for the enhancement of rate of literacy and the so-far measures taken in this regard were thoroughly reviewed.
The officials of the Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC), Non-Formal Educational Department, Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), Pakistan Television and other stake holders were present in the meeting and presented their suggestions.
