Islamabad, May 03 (): The present management of the Authority has started sensitizing the sponsors and developers of different housing schemes operating in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) limits regarding environmental issues including controlling the contamination of under ground water, preserving the natural water course, improvement solid waste management and establishment of sewerage treatment plants (STP) thus contributing toward clean and green Islamabad agenda of the Government of Pakistan.

In this connection, Planning Wing of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) convened a meeting of different housing societies regarding establishment of sewerage treatment plants to treat sewerage of the societies and deal other environmental issues.

The meeting was attended by the senior officers of Planning Wing, representatives, consultants and developers of different housing societies including Bin Rehman Enclave, Zone-IV,CBR Town, Gulberg Town, Agoush Town, FESHS E-11, Sawan Garden, Naval Encourage, Multi Professional Cooperative Society, River Garden and Bahria Town etc.

During the meeting Member Planning and Design emphasized upon importance of clean and Green environment, solid waste management and sewerage treatment plant. It was further emphasized the implementation the proposals of activated sludge and bio remediation so that water courses and nullahs could be kept clean and epidemic diseases could also be averted.

Representatives of different housing societies apprized that sewerage treatment plants in some housing societies are functional while some societies have submitted the designs of the plants in the CDA. On this occasion, housing societies who have not yet submitted the designs were directed for immediate submission of third party vetted designs in the CDA. The housing societies who have third party vetted designs of STPs were directed for started executing the work on the STPs.

Representatives of some housing societies informed that preliminary preparations regarding establishment of STPS at the lowest points in the societies have been completed and requested CDA for guidelines regarding solid waste management.

Representatives of different schemes also informed that some housing societies are located adjacent to each other therefore they intends to establish common STPs.

On this occasion, the representatives’ different housing societies were informed that CDA is ready to facilitate the societies for technical assistance. However, work on these projects should be completed at the earliest so that the environment of the city could be protected.
