Islamabad, Aug 01 (TNS): Senate today rejected the no confidence resolutions moved against Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwala as these failed to secure the required fifty three votes.

The no confidence against the Chairman was moved by the opposition parties and fifty Senators voted in favor of it.

The no confidence against the Deputy Chairman was moved by the treasury benches and thirty-two Senators voted in favor of it.

The House has now been prorogued.

Meanwhile, Leader of the House in Senate Shibli Faraz has said rejection of no confidence resolution against Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani is the victory of the institution of Senate.

Talking to media outside the parliament house in Islamabad today, he said the opposition members of Senate must show seriousness towards their responsibility for legislation in the upper house of the Parliament.

He urged the opposition Senators to refrain from walk outs and seriously participate in the political debates in the house, legislation and process of accountability.

Shibli Faraz said they will discourage any future attempt to disrupt the functioning of the house by the opposition members.

He said JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman used the Senators from other opposition parties to achieve his vested interests but he failed in his endeavor.

He said they were in contact with opposition members and tried to convince them that by moving a no confidence motion against the chairman Senate they are doing disservice to the traditions of the house and the spirit of democracy.

Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Media Iftikhar Durrani has congratulated Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani on his victory against the no confidence resolution moved by opposition against him. In a tweet today, he said after defeat in the provincial election in the newly merged districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, PML-N and PPP have suffered yet another defeat in the Senate.

Central Secretary General of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Amir Mahmood Kiani has also congratulated Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani.

In a statement, he said the defeat of opposition’s no confidence resolution will augur well for the future of the house.
