Lahore, Aug 01 (TNS): A high-level meeting was held under the chair of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office here today which reviewed in detail different measures taken for the prevention of crops from locusts’ attack in Bahawalpur division. While directing to take all-possible preventive measures for countering the attack, the Chief Minister said that the concerned departments should remain fully alert and vigilant in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan districts for saving the crops besides giving special focus to aerial spray for controlling the locusts attack. He directed that the scope of aerial spray should be extended by hiring aero plane on rent. He further directed that the spray through vehicles should be further accelerated. Surveillance should be conducted on daily basis and campaign should be carried out in a scientific for protecting the crops from locusts’ attack. He said that more pesticides should be imported according to the need and speedy measures should be taken after getting support from the federal government in this regard. He said that concerned departments will have to remain fully alert and field officers should discharge their duties efficiently. He said that the control room established at central and district levels should keep a vigilant eye round-the-clock over the situation. DG PDMA gave the briefing about the measures taken for protecting the crops from locusts’ attack. Chief Secretary, SMBR, Principal Secretary to CM, Secretary Agriculture, Secretary to CM (Coordination), DG PDMA and others were present on the occasion. Commissioners of Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Multan divisions participated through video link.
CM directs to sort out pending cases of overseas Pakistanis: A high-level meeting was held under the chair of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar for reviewing the performance of Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Commission. The Chief Minister directed to sort out pending cases of overseas Pakistanis on emergent basis. The Chief Minister, while addressing the meeting, said that the Chairmen of Overseas Pakistanis Committees have been posted in 29 districts whereas Chairmen of the remaining seven districts will be posted soon. He said that participation of DCs and DPOs in the meetings of District Committees will be ensured which will greatly help the solution of pending cases. The Chief Minister directed the administration and police authorities to extend full cooperation to the district committees for the immediate solution of problems of overseas Pakistanis. He said that absence of DCs and DPOs in the meetings will not be tolerated. The Chief Minister said that the draft of new act of OPC Punjab has been prepared which will soon be finalized. He said that expatriate Pakistanis are our assets and their services for the country is laudable. He said that Punjab government will ensure the protection of rights and properties of overseas Pakistanis at every cost. Qadra canal opens on the directions of CM: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has solved the important issue of the farmers of district Rajanpur of southern Punjab. On the directions of Chief Minister, Qadra canal has been opened; as a result of which, water could be available in the canals of Rajanpur for irrigating thousands of acres of agri. lands. He said that provision of water to tail-farmers should be ensured. Abundant water would be available to the farmers after opening of Qadra canal. He said that instructions have also been issued to the concerned authorities to control the menace of water-theft.
CM condoles death of four persons of a family in road accident: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has expressed a deep sense of sorrow and grief over the death of four persons of a same family in a road accident in Drahma area of DG Khan. The Chief Minister extended heartfelt sympathies and condoled to the bereaved family and directed that the injured child should be provided best treatment facilities. He has also sought a report from the administration.
