Pakistan calls for enhancing capabilities of UN peacekeepers

Islamabad: March 27, 2021 (TNS): Pakistan has called for enhancing the capabilities of United Nations peacekeepers deployed in hotspots around the world to enable them counter the threat posed by improvised explosive devises.

Speaking at the Security Council meeting, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Muhammad Amir Khan said an effective counter-IED strategy depends on taking a holistic view of the safety and security of UN peacekeepers.

He said we must harness technology, consistent with the basic principles of peacekeeping to enhance the capabilities of peacekeepers.

The Pakistani representative also underlined the importance of building partnerships, including with regional organizations, to address the training and capacity-building needs of host countries and troop contributing countries.
