Islamabad July 7 (TNS): The death anniversary of Havaldar Lalak Jan Shaheed is being observed today across the country.
Awarded the Nishan-e-Haider for his the bravery he exhibited in the Kargil war in 1999, Lalak Jan was born on April 1, 1967, in the remote Hudur Valley of District Ghizer in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The martyred Lalik Jan had joined the Northern Light Infantry (NLI) Regiment on December 10, 1984.
He was serving as Havaldar in the NLI Regiment when the Kargil war broke out in 1999 and fought in the forefront to frustrate the heavy Indian attack, causing a debilitating human loss to the enemy.
Havildar Lalak Jan repelled many aggressive ventures of the enemy and inflicted a heavy loss to the Indian army.
On July 7, Lalak Jan sustained serious injuries as enemies pounded the area with heavy mortar shells. Despite his injuries, he stayed at his position and fought off the Indian assault. He later succumbed to his injuries and his body was taken to Hundur Valley for burial.
