LAHORE, July 29 (TNS): Subsequent to the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, it has become difficult for Pakistan Super League (PSL) Chairman Najam Sethi to become Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief despite years of efforts, as his nomination in the role of a member of governing board has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Najam Sethi, who was nominated for chairmanship of the board along with Arif Ejaz by the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif, was all set to assume charge as PCB chairman after the tenure of former chairman Shahryar Khan, but PCB’s Patron in Chief Nawaz Sharif was disqualified on Friday (yesterday) by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which was also the last day of Shahryar Khan in his office.

On the other hand, Sethi said in a press conference after attending the last session of previous governing board that the current political unrest in the country would not affect the elections of cricket board.

While responding to journalists’ question, he said there is no legal obstacle in his way to become the chief, and he will keep on doing his work despite criticism.

Let it be known that it was scheduled to elect the next chairman of PCB through elections in the first week of August, but elections now may face a delay.
