Lahore truck blast leaves 39 people injured

Lahore, August 7 (TNS): Nearly 40 people were injured as a cargo truck exploded on Band Road in Lahore on Monday night, officials say.

The explosion was so powerful that three story building of a private school badly damaged while it shattered the windows of nearby buildings and damaged vehicles.

Officials say people 39 sustained injuries, Rescue 1122 has shifted the injured to Mian Munshi Hospital whereas police have cordoned off the area.

14 victims with minor injuries were discharged from hospital after first aid treatment.

Initial reports suggested that the explosion resulted off a high-voltage electricity cables mishap. However, there also are reports of explosives planted in a parked truck that went off.

According to the locals, a truck exploded that was parked there for at least three days and was loaded with fruits.

Police said the truck was completely destroyed in the blast, making them suspect that it was used to carry out the explosion.

The explosion has left a crater around 10 feet deep at the site.
