NAB set to establish 50,000 CBS in 2017

ISLAMABAD, Aug 8 (TNS): The National Accountability Bureau has set a target of establishing 50,000 Character Building Societies (CBS) during the year 2017, NAB Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry told on Tuesday.

More than 42,000 CBS had already been established in universities and colleges in collaboration with Higher Education Commission to create awareness amongst the students, he said while chairing a meeting held here to review Transparency Report.

He said Pakistan’s ranking in Corruption Perception Index had improved plus nine points which was a great achievement. The chairman said Pakistan was being considered a role model in South Asian countries in its efforts against corruption.

Besides Transparency International, the other independent national and international watchdogs like PLIDAT and World Economic Forum had also appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in eradication of corruption.

He said NAB was focusing on Awareness and Preventive and Enforcement Strategy so that the corruption could be nipped in the bud. He emphasized upon all NAB officers to work hard for eradication of corruption by adopting Zero Tolerance Policy across the board.

 

The chairman said NAB had rationalize its workload and timelines had been prescribed for efficient, effective and expeditious disposal of cases putting a maximum limit of 10 months which was a challenging target to investigate cases of even white collar crimes.

NAB had also introduced a new System of Combine Investigation Team (CIT) in order to benefit from experience and collective wisdom of senior supervisory officers. He directed all officers to adopt and demonstrate absolute fairness and transparency in discharge of their official duties.
