KARACHI Aug 19 (TNS): One of the most renowned ‘Mother Teresa’ Dr Ruth Pfau, the sign of humanity, who treated every leprosy patient belonging to any religion, culture and was known as guardian angel transforming the destiny of several leprosy patients in Pakistan, her Last rites with full state honors are being held in Saint Patrick’s Church at Karachi with national honor.
Pfau was a German-Pakistani doctor who dedicated her life to helping leprosy patients in Pakistan and is one of the founders of Marie Adelaide Leprosy Centre (MALC).
The services are being attended by a large number of citizens, social workers and government high-ups.
President Mamnoon Hussain, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah and Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair are in attendance along with officials from the German Consulate in Karachi. Commander Karachi, DG Sindh and IG Sindh are also attending the funeral rites.
She is the third civilian after Jinnah and Edhi to receive state funeral.
The flag of Vatican City was also hoisted at the cathedral, while the national flag of Pakistan remained at half-mast. A gun-salute was offered during the funeral proceedings, with contingents of all three Armed Forces of Pakistan present on the occasion.
Dr Ruth will be laid to rest at the city’s Gora Qabristan, after her final rites are completed at the cathedral.
