KARACHI, Aug 24 (TNS): Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday rejected Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) appeal against a single bench verdict overturning the gas utility decision to hike gas tariff for industries.

The court while upholding the single-member bench decision ruled that the gas utility decision was against the set principles of Council of Common Interests and Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The gas utility raised gas tariff for industrial consumers in fiscal year 2014-15. A petition was filed in Sindh High Court against the decision.

A single member bench of the high court after hearing the petition declared the SSGC decision to raise tariff as illegal.

The SSGC filed intra-court appeal (ICA) in SHC against the single bench decision, which was also rejected by a division bench of the court.

The court observed that the decision to raise tariff was taken against the set principles and procedures laid down by CCI, Supreme Court and even without consulting provinces.
