Islamabad, Sept 05 (TNS): The National Accountability Bureau on Tuesday precluded a request to freeze the Sharif family’s assets and recommendation to put their names on the Exit Control List (ECL), local media quoting officials reported.

According to reports, the NAB Lahore and Rawalpindi had prepared and sent references regarding deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his children’s Aziziya Mill and A-One Field Property to the anti-corruption watchdog’s headquarters in Islamabad just before Eidul Azha in which they had requested to freeze the Sharif family’s assets.

The regional NAB offices had also recommended that the Sharif family’s names be placed on the ECL.

One of the references also involved Finance Minister Ishaq Dar who is accused of possessing assets and funds beyond known sources of income. The NAB city offices had suggested the freezing of Dar’s assets and putting his name on the no-fly list too.

However, in a meeting after the Eid holidays, the NAB headquarters in Islamabad has rejected both the requests and has informed NAB Lahore chief Major Retd Shehzad Saleem through a letter.

NAB officials have filed references against the Sharif family and Dar on the orders of the Supreme Court which had ousted Nawaz on July 28 following a probe into the Panama Papers scandal.
