ISLAMABAD Sept. 14 (TNS): Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Sirajul Haq has demanded to revoke authority of government and opposition leader for appointing chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

If NAB had an impartial chairman, the country would not have been in the mess that it is in today, he added, he said while talking to media here on Thursday.

Instead, Siraj added, NAB chairman should be decided jointly by the Chief Justices of the Supreme Court and the four High Courts of the country.

Under the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), 1999, the appointment of NAB chairman is made by the prime minister in consultation with the leader of the opposition.

Siraj said that the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah are in consultations over the appointment of new chairman of NAB but his appointment shhould be made by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court or by him after consultations with the provinces.
