MUMBAI, Nov 26 (TNS): To win his love of life, ex Indian Muslim cricketer Zaheer khan has agreed to bow down before his in-laws to wed film actress Sagarika Ghatge according to Hindu religious rituals and customs.
To avoid wrath from Hindu extremists Zaheer Khan and Sagarika Ghatge tied the knot in Mumbai on Thursday by opting for a court marriage, which is set to be followed by a grand reception.
The reception will take place on the Monday 27th of November in Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace and Tower. Famous Bollywood celebrities and Zaheer’s teammates are expected to be present on the day of the reception.
According to a report pouring from Bombay, the wedding will be followed by a cocktail party in the evening. The mehendi ceremony will take place today, followed by a grand reception a day after.
Sagarika and Zaheer met through common friends and dated for almost two years before making their relationship official. It was in May this year that Zaheer proposed to Sagarika.
And it was on 22nd November that the couple’s wedding card went viral when Sagarika’s Chak De co-actor Vidya Malavade shared it on social media. Vidya also shared a picture of the bride preparing for the wedding ceremonies.
Fearing Hindu fanatic organisations the wedding ceremony was kept an intimate affair with the presence of only close friends and family members, but now the couple is all set to throw a grand reception for the celebs of both film and cricket industry on November 27 at Taj Mahal Palace and Tower in Mumbai.
According to the Indian scribe Sidharth Sri Wastav that to appease Hindu fanatics and save the skin of in-laws Zaheer and his family has agreed that he will make rounds around the flame and will part in other Hindu rituals and customs without caring his religion.
Sagereeka is said to have stated that their marriage isn’t registered with any religious way, indicating that both of them have compromised with their religion and put their love above the faith.
Indian Muslims in particular are said to have gotten hurt by the conduct of zaheer as after the revelation of the news that he is going to wed according to the Hindu customs and rituals, millions of Indian youngsters started trolling him on social media by dubbing his faith compromised love marriage as “Love jihad”.
According to the Indian media zaheer khan stated that he along with his wife has committed that they will not interfere in each other’s religion. On the other side Sagereeka has said that her parents are open minded and they’ve allowed her to marry a man of her wish irrespective of faith. She further said that they only demand a perfect guy for her and zaheer is perfect to meet the standard. Father of sagereeka said to media that he found nothing bad in zaheer and he is happy for both of them to start a new happy life. He further said that he is happy that with Zaheer for loving his daughter and starting to learn Marathi. sagareeka said that many of her friends are unhappy for marrying a muslim but she thinks it should be ignored.
