SC orders retrieval of grabbed amenity plots in Karachi within two days; In case of failure DG KDA to be sent to jail

KARACHI, Nov 27 (TNS):  The Supreme Court while ordering retrieval of all amenity plots from grabbers warned that if the amenity spaces were not retrieved within two day Director General Karachi Development Authority (KDA) would be sent to jail.

A two member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard a petition regarding amenity/ST plots in Karachi.

During the hearing of the case, the court expressed it anger over allotments of Amenity/ST plots in Karachi for other purposes.

Addressing director land KDA, the Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked “People like you are the enemies of Karachi. You have treating Karachi’s land and spaces like your inherited land and allotting the same at your will.”

The judge further remarked that the in the prevailing situation it was difficult to breathe in the city. The court inquired from director KDA whether Karachi was meant for marriage halls.

Further expressing his anger the judge said that the green spaces in the city were denuded, all amenity plots were sold and playground in the city were eliminated, adding that nowadays youths are not found anywhere in the city while playing cricket.

He directed KDA to immediate remove/raze all illegal constructions on Kashmir Road, University Road, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad and other areas and remove/raze marriage halls from all parks, playgrounds and amenity spaces in the area and submit a report of the same in the court.

He warned that if the directives were not implemented action would be taken against DG KDA and other high officers of the authority.
