ISLAMABAD Nov 29 (TNS): The chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (r) Javed Iqbal on Wednesday pledged the bureau was following the zero-tolerance policy to eliminate corruption from the country. “Now instead of concentrating on small cases we are going to net the big fish as well.”

Addressing a ceremony held at NAB headquarters in connection with the corruption victims’ cases and returning their hard-earned money to them, he said corruption was a curse eating the country away. He said NAB will play its role in preventing the wastage of national resources terming it as Jehad.

He said various cases of housing societies were pending for many years, alleging that some private housing societies do not deliver houses to people on time, after getting their money. NAB chairman urged for a change in attitude to solve all pending cases against private housing societies within a stipulated time.

He assured all mega cases before the bureau would be taken to their conclusion. He told that as many as nine housing societies looting 179 people have been forced to return their invested money. He also urged the people to invest their money carefully.

In his address the chairman said as many as 96 corruption references out of 179 mega corruption cases have already been filed in relevant accountability courts.

He said that NAB, as an institution has played a central role in galvanizing anti-corruption efforts all over the country, it has become a focal point for people frustrated without public sector institutions.

“We have developed and introduced on line complaint registration system along with dedicated telephone lines for assistance of general public and complainants, we listen very carefully to what all our citizens are saying,” he said.

“But this is just the beginning. The fight against corruption is complex and long-drawn and cannot be undertaken much less any single entity institution. The state and society will have to act in unison to rid our nation from this scourge of corruption,” he remarked.

He said the NAB would continue its fearless fight against corruption, without any discrimination for or against any one, with honesty and objectivity.
