Ahsan Iqbal formally approves formation of anti-riot force to secure capital

Islamabad, Dec. 18 (TNS): Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal formally approved formation of an anti-riot force to ensure permanent safety and security of the federal capital.

The force comprising 2,000 police personnel would be responsible for foolproof security in the capital.

The anti-riot force would be a unit of Islamabad Police and recruitment for this new unit to be completed in two phases.

In first phase, 1000 personnel would be recruited while on directions of IG Islamabad Police Dr. Sultan Azam Taimuri, a unit comprising 586 police officer and cops has been formed.

This anti-riot unit is being trained by special trainers of Punjab police who were qualified from Turkey to deal with riots in unrest and turmoil situation.

The unit also contains a lady-squad which is being trained by lady trainers.

The unit is also being equipped with state of the art anti-riot kits and other paraphernalia to control riots.

IG Islamabad Police Dr. Sultan Azam Taimuri recently visited the unit to witness their training process.

Speaking on occasion, IG Taimuri said that this unit would remain alert at Police Lines and would act as immediate response force in case of emergency law and order situation.
