New Hajj policy on federal cabinet meeting agenda today

ISLAMABAD Dec 26 (TNS): Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi will chair a meeting of the federal cabinet Tuesday evening (today), where the new Hajj policy for next year will be among the agendas discussed.

According to official sources, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has almost finalised preparations to announce new Hajj policy 2018 during the current week, subject to the approval of the federal cabinet.

The ministry would start receiving applications for Government Hajj Scheme from mid-January 2018. The successful intending pilgrims would be selected through balloting in last week of January, the sources said.

Pakistan’s total Hajj quota is 179,210, of which 60 percent of total allocated Hujjaj would perform the sacred religious ceremony through Government Hajj Scheme while 40 percent would perform the Hajj through Private Hajj Scheme, the sources added.

Decisions taken regarding the Economic Coordination Committee and the China Pakistan Economic Corridor will also be approved during the cabinet meeting today.
