NEW YORK Jan. 23 (TNS): The United Nations Secretary General António Guterres while expressing concern over situation at Line of Control has called for talks between Pakistan and India.
Spokesman for the Secretary General Stephane Dujarric at a regular news briefing in New York said that Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over firing incidents at Line of Control and the Working Boundary and is following the situation.
He said the UN encourages Pakistan and India to resolve the issue through a dialogue.
The spokesman also said the UN chief stands ready to mediate peace talks between Pakistan and India.
He said as a matter of principle, the secretary-general’s good offices is always available but the two sides must agree to his mediation.
