Lawmakers protest in NA over petrol prices hike

Islamabad March 2 (TNS): Lawmakers mostly belonging to the opposition benches staged a protest in the National Assembly on Friday against the recent hike in petroleum prices.

They demanded that the government immediately withdraw the price hike notification as according to them, prices of crude oil were on the decline in the international market but here the government has done the very opposite by jacking up prices.

Pakistan People’s Party lawmaker Naveed Qamar strongly criticized the government over the revenue generation policy, stating that potential taxpayers were slipping out of the tax net the government and the achieve Federal Bureau Revenue was burdening the poor instead of giving relief to them by cutting sales tax on diesel and petrol.

Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-Fazl leader Aasia Nasir said that the government has consistently been jacking up the prices for the last four to five months, causing inflation. She asked to review its decision over the price hike.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf lawmaker Amir Dogar termed the raise in petroleum price unjustified demanding to take back the notification about the petroleum prices. Independent lawmaker Jamshed Dasti said that the government was showing utter apathy towards the problems facing the masses.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader Sahabzada Tariqullah said that the surge in kerosene prices will compel the people to cut forests.
