Islamabad, March 5 (TNS): The Supreme Court has directed intelligence agencies to submit an updated report on the possible whereabouts of absconding former Mali SSP Rao Anwar, the alleged killer of Naqeebullah Mehsood in Karachi.
Since the incident took place and an inquiry committee was formed to investigate the fake encounter that had claimed more than five lives including Mehsood on January 13, Anwar has gone into hiding before he was spotted at the Islamabad airport attempting to flee the country. The FIA immigration staff reportedly stopped him from leaving the country after his name was put on the exit control list.
While resuming the hearing in the suo moto case, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar directed the FIA, the ISI and other agencies to submit a fresh report detailing possible hideout of the fugitive police officer, who is also accused of staging over 400 fake encounters.

During the hearing, the IB submitted a report and an official of the SBP told the court that bank accounts of Anwar had been blocked.
Earlier, the chief justice had allowed an anonymous letter of the absconding police and asked him to appear before the court but Anwar did not show up, putting the top judge in an awkward situation, who had later ordered the agencies to trace him and produce before the court.

The intelligence agencies have failed to locate the fugitive police officer and critics call it an utter failure of the intelligence agencies which have so much resources and funds at disposal.
The apex court ordered the intelligence agencies to submit a fresh report within 15 days. The court also asked the provincial police chiefs to provide security to witnesses in the case.
