Islamabad March 5 (TNS): Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has demanded to probe the alleged use of money in buying votes prior to Senate elections.
Talking to the media after appearing before a trial court hearing the Flagship Investment corruption reference, the former president said that a huge sum was used to buy votes and change members’ loyalty to their parties. He said that some parties with no or fewer members in provincial legislatures even grabbed Senate seats, which should be invested and this cruel joke should stop here and the episode of buy and sell should be done away with.
Targeting the Supreme Court, Sharif said that the apex court barred his party members from contesting Senate polls on party symbol and members voting the candidates had to face in recognizing the nominees. He, however, made it clear that the by-election victory of the PML-N candidate in Sargodha should open the eyes of the party’s detractors, who want him to be banished from politics but the masses elect them back. Sharif said that nobody could erase their name from Pakistani politics by denying or snatching the party symbol.
The former premier said that the more harsh treatment would be meted out to them, the more reaction will emerge from the general public who have are increasingly subscribing to the PML-N narrative of giving respect to the vote.
Sharif said that the masses were getting more aware politically as things unfold and they never accepted the decision where only five persons thrown out an elected prime minister on weak grounds.
