FATA Senator Mirza Afridi joins PML-N

Islamabad March 5 (TNS): Independent Senator Mirza Mohammad Afridi, who was elected to the Senate in cent polls from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, on Monday joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

After a meeting with former prime minister and PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif on Monday, Afridi announced to join the PML-N.

In the Senate polls on Saturday, the PML-N-backed independent candidates grabbed the majority of seats the Upper House of Parliament.

After Afridi’s joining the PML-N, its total strength in the Senate rose to 34. In the Senate polls, 15 PML-N backed candidates were elected with the party grabbing 11 seats from Punjab, two each from Islamabad and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Elections for the slot od Senate chairman and deputy chairman would be held on March 10 and the PML-N and the PPP have accelerated their contacts to lure a maximum number of votes to get their nominees elected on the two coveted seats. A total of 53 votes would be required for the election of Senate chairman.
