‘Punjab govt made effective legislation for women welfare’

Lahore March 9 (TNS): A spokesman for the Punjab government said on Friday that the provincial government has put in place effective legislation for the welfare of women.

In a statement issued here, Malik Ahmad Khan said that under Punjab Zewer-e-Taleem programme, over 0.5 million students in 16 districts of South Punjab were being given a monthly stipend of Rs1000 to each student.

He said that that the quota for women in term of employment had been jacked up to 15 percent after the Women’s Development Department made legislation.

Khan said that family courts had also been set up for providing legal assistance.

He said that 36,000 domestic animals had been distributed across Punjab to empower rural women.
